Ubisoft is reportedly looking to “change the ‘Far Cry’ formula” with ‘Far Cry 7’ and the spin-off shooter ‘Maverick’.
According to Insider Gaming, the studio is developing the next mainline entry into the action-adventure franchise – which is codenamed ‘Blackbird’ – as well as an extraction-based shooter known as ‘Maverick’.
The outlet has claimed developer Ubisoft Montreal will be moving both supposed titles over to the Snowdrop game engine from Dunia in an effort to give the series a breath of fresh air.
The shooter will allegedly take place in the Alaskan wilderness, and “will see players fight one another, animals, and the harsh weather to survive”.
Meanwhile, ‘Blackbird’ will allegedly follow an as-of-yet unknown protagonist – which is reportedly not the character Cillian Murphy will be playing – who has to rescue his family who have been kidnapped by a “conspiracy cult” that carries out “hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children”.
Apparently, the player will have 24 hours in real-time – 72 in-game hours – to save their family before it’s too late.
On top of the game engine and storylines, both ‘Maverick’ and ‘Blackbird’ will reportedly include new movement systems, allowing players to slide, vault, and tactically sprint.
While neither of the projects have been officially confirmed by Ubisoft, Insider Gaming claims ‘Black Bird’ and ‘Maverick’ have been internally delayed to 2025 and 2026 respectively “due to complexities in development”.
